Fusing ~
A Introductory Class on the Basics
At its core, fusing is simply the process of melting one piece of glass into another, but as anyone who has ever tried it can attest, there is a whole lot of other stuff going on inside that kiln! Throughout the year, we offer several different one-day introductory classes that explore the ins and outs of the fusing process. Most of these classes employ the use of pre-cut glass blanks or components, plus a number of embellishments (dichroic glass, Firesticks™ and/ot FireThings™, frit, Dichro Slide™, Liquid Stringer™, metals),  to make "wearable art" (the cabochon class), photo frames, ornaments, or other items. A complete discussion of the fusing process forms the core of each of these classes, and a detailed handout is provided to each student. Due to the length of the fusing process, students do not normally get to take their finished product home with them at the conclusion of the class; these items must be picked up at a later date. However, each student is provided with a firing log that details the fusing process used in creation of their items, and students are able to see how the kiln is set up and programmed for firing. The cost for each of these one-day classes is $100 per person, which includes all supplies.
